Herny was killed in action on 22 August 1918 and was buried in Dernacourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme (grave ref. X.J.17).
He was born J/A/S/1898 so may have been 20 when killed. Mansfield Reporter, 30 August 1918: ‘Killed in Action. News has been received by Mr and Mrs. Clayphan, of Orchard-road, that their son Harry, who was an observer in the RGA, was killed in action in France last week.
