George Owen (junior) was born in 1883 the son of George Owen (senior) a coal miner and Deborah Owen née Plumb of Kirkby in Ashfield, George (senior) was born in 1857 at Litchfield, Staffordshire, Deborah Plumb was born in 1857 at Pentlow, Essex, married on 17th March 1877 at Burton Upon Trent they went on to have 7 children, George Owen (junior) married Ethel Maud Lawley (born 25th September 1890) in 1911 at Nottingham, Ethel brought a child to the marriage Irene May born 18th December 1910 who George adopted, they had a daughter Miriam Maud born 5th March 1912. In 1911 the family were living at 7 Strettons Yard, Trinity Square Nottingham, George 28 yrs is a carriage worker for the Midland Railway , he is living with Ethel Maud 22 yrs and Irene 3 months of age Commencing 26th July 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.
He was a carriage worker for the Midland Railway.

Lance Corporal George Own enlisted at Pontefract whilst residing at East Kirkby, he was killed in action on 1st October 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium
