Harold Cupit was born in 1892 the son of Isabella Cupit née Robinson and the late Jabez Cupit a coal miner Jabez was born in 1861 at Kirkby, he died in 1899 aged 38 yrs , Isabella Robinson was born in 1863 at Clay Cross, married on 29th March 1880 at Blackwell they went on to have 8 children. In 1911 they lived at 49 Main Street Annesley Woodhouse He married Claudia Kirk at St Johns Church, Annesley Woodhouse on 12th May 1913, they lived at 8 Sherwood Street, Annesley Woodhouse and had the following children, Hilda born 18th January 1914 and Jack born 4th June 1916. Commencing 13th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.
He was a butcher's assistant in 1911.

Private Harold Cupit enlisted on 8th December 1915 at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, giving his age as 23 yrs and 214 days, he was a butchers assistant and his next of kin was his wife Claudia. He was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France on 3rd July 1917. He was posted to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 27th July 1917 and was killed in action on 26th September 1917, during the attack at St. Julian, Belgium. Buried: Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 10. Row F. Grave 5.
