Ernest Smith

Ernest Smith was born in 1886 the son of John Smith of Toton Nottinghamshire He married Christina Hollingsworth (born 12th September 1885) in 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district, they lived at Cliffhill, Stapleford and had a son Ernest Noel born 5th December 1916. Commencing 26th May 1919 Christina Smith was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Private Ernest Smith enlisted at Stapleford, he initially served with the service number 43177 in the Royal Scottish Fusiliers, Killed in action on 12th October 1918 and is buried at Montay-Neuville Road, Cemetery, Montay, France.
