James William Henry Skinner was born in 1894 at Jacksdale and was the son of Henry a midland railway platelayer and Lucy Goddard Skinner née Taylor of 'Prospect Villa' Laverick Road Jacksdale Nottinghamshire. His father Henry was born in 1869 at Scalford, Leicester, his mother Lucy Goddard Taylor was born in 1864 at Clipsham, Rutland, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. They went on to have 4 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child a son Samuel was born in 1901 at Jacksdale. In the 1911 census the family were living at Brake House, Jacksdale and were shown as Henry 42 yrs a ganger platelayer for the Midland Railway, he is living with his wife Lucy 47 yrs and their children James William Henry 17 yrs a pit bank labourer and Samuel 10 yrs a scholar.
In the 1911 census he is a pit bank labourer above ground.

Private James William Henry Skinner served as William Henry Skinner he enlisted at Eastwood and formerly served as 34874 Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action whilst serving with the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment on 8th October 1918, he is buried at Ramicourt British Cemetery grave reference B.18
