Albert Edward Harris was born in 1887 at Underwood and was the son of the late John a coal miner and Kate Harris née Lowe of Underwood. His father John was born in 1857 at Brinsley , he died in 1910 aged 53 yrs , his mother Kate Lowe was born in 1863 at Nether Broughton, Leicestershire, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district they went on to have the following children, Mary b1884, Fanny b1886 and John b1887 all were born at Underwood. Albert married his wife Dora Mary Campbell (born 23rd July 1888) in 1917 at Mansfield they lived at Church School House Shirebrook Mansfield Nottinghamshire. They went on to have a son Geoffrey John born 13th April 1918 , 3 days prior to Albert's death. His widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week to commence on 4th November 1918.
Certificated assistant (teacher) at Hardwick Street Boys County School, Sutton in Ashfield. Another teacher from the school, Sgt Joseph Alfred Jones, Lincolnshire Rgt, was also killed (16 June 1915).

Signaller Albert Edward Harris enlisted at Nottingham whilst living at Mansfield his Army Service Record has not survived. He joined the Colours on 18 July 1917, he served with the East Yorkshire (19th Foot), transferred 1st battalion in March 1918 (NCC register). He was killed in action on 16th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Somme, France.
