Wallace was the second son of Henry and Ellen Powell (nee Easom)
Henry Powell and Ellen Easom (b. 1863) were married in 1889 (A/M/J Basford) and had four children: Henry (Harry) b. 10 May 1890 (A/M/J Basford), Wallace b. 1893 (O/N/D Basford), Eliza b. 10 September 1895 (O/N/D Basford) and Eva birth registered 1898 (J/F/M Basford).
In 1891 Henry (27), a labourer, and Ellen (28) were living with their 11 month old son, Henry, at 130 Park Lane, Old Basford, in the household of Ellen's widowed father, James Easom (61) a grocer.
The family was still living with Ellen's father, James Easom, in 1901 but they had now moved to 128 Park Lane, Old Basford. Henry was working as a shoe maker on his own account (at home). Henry and Ellen now had four children, Henry (10), Wallace (7), Eliza (5) and Eva (3).
James Easom died on 7 June 1903; he was by now living at 130 Park Lane, Old Basford. His daughter Ellen was one of his two Executors.
Wallace's father Henry died on 10 March 1910. The address on Henry's Probate record was 130 Park Lane, and he was described as a grocer and provision dealer. It can be assumed that Henry and his family had moved to 130 Park Lane with his father-in-law James sometime before 1903 and that Henry had begun to work in the business.
Wallace's mother Ellen continued to run the grocery business as in 1911 she was still at 130 Park Lane and her occupation was given as 'grocer' on the census. All four of her children were still living at home: Henry (20) a bricklayer, Wallace (17) a clerk, Eliza (15) a shop assistant in the family business, and Eva (13) a lace hand.
Wallace married Florence Edith Warwick in 1916 (A/M/J Nottingham). According to the Probate record they were living at 1 Gamble Street, Nottingham, at the time of Wallace's death although the later CWGC record gives Florence's adddress as 13 Baldwin Street, Radford, Nottingham. Florence married Harry Foster in 1920 (O/N/D Nottingham).
Ellen Powell died on 15 August 1950; she was still living at 130 Park Lane, Old Basford. Her surviving son, Henry, a bricklayer, was her Executor.
Of Wallace's siblings:
Henry married Mabel Carnill (b. 11 April 1889) in 1913 (J/A/S Nottingham). In 1939 at the time of the England & Wales Register, Henry and Mabel were living at 128 Park Lane, Old Basford, with their children Ena b. 14 September 1914, a hosiery flatlocker, and Norman H. b. 10 August 1923, an apprentice joiner.
Eliza married Harry Bexon (b. 7 March 1900) in 1923 (O/N/D Nottingham). In 1939 they were living with Eliza's mother, Ellen, described as a retired shopkeeper, at 130 Park Lane, Old Basford. Harry worked as a stoker, probably for Nottingham Corporation, while Eliza was managing the grocery business. Eliza probably died on 4 February 1981; the Probate record gave her address as 1 Derwent Drive, Hucknall.
Eva has not been positively identified after 1911, but there is a record of the marriage of an Eva Powell to William Williams in 1922 (A/M/J Nottingham) and the death of an Eva Williams (b. abt 1898) in 1964 (Jun Mansfield).
