Father: George Walter Rowe, born in 1878 in London and working as a cabinet maker. Mother: Jane Rowe, born in 1879 at Bethnal Green, London and working as a tailoress. Sisters: Jenny E., born in 1900 in London, Eliza M., born in 1902 at Mile End, London and Louise H., born in 1908 at Mile End, London. The family left London and moved to 3 Burgass Place, Hucknall Road Carrington, Nottingham. George Walter married his wife Jane Biggs ( born 21st January 1879 ) in 1898 their marriage was recorded in the Bethnall Green, London Registration district, they lived at 3 Burgess Place, Knox Street, Carrington, they went on to have the following children, George William born 5th August 1903 and Louisa Frances born 29th April 1907.

Rowe was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. The battalion took part in the 1918 Battle of Cambrai, where it was used to advance with other regiments through the Beaurevoir Line. They managed to break through but suffered heavy casualties from machine gun fire in concrete pillboxes. Rowe was killed in action and was buried at Marcoing British Cemetery.
In memoriam published 8th October 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “ROWE. — In loving memory of Pte. G.
