Percy John Salt was born in 1891 he was the son of John Arthur a commercial clerk and Eliza Salt née Batty of Primrose Bank, Stanton by Dale. John Arthur Salt was born in 1857 Eliza Batty was born in 1868 both were born in Stanton by Dale, they were married on 1st November 1885 at Stanton by Dale, they had a further child a daughter Nellie Jane born 1887 also at Stanton by Dale. In the 1911 census the family are living a Stanton by Dale, John Arthur 54 yrs is a commercial clerk, he is living with his wife Eliza 43 yrs and their children, Nellie Jane 24 yrs assisting her mother and Percy James 20 yrs an assistant ironmonger.

19th Bn Durham Light Infantry
Private Percy John Salt enlisted on 4th December 1914 at Baslow giving his age as 25 yrs, (he was actually 23 yrs of age he was born in 1891) he was posted to the Durham Light Infantry and landed in France on 20th September 1916. He died of wounds on 27th October 1917 at the 47th casualty clearing station and is buried at Dozinghem Military Cemetery
