Tom Willoughby was born in 1895 and was the son of Richard (Dick) steel inspector and Mary Willoughby néé Marsh of Sheffield. Dick was born in 1861 at Milton, Nottinghamshire, Mary Marsh was born in 1863 at Thorp, Derbyshire, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Sheffield registration district, they went on to have 10 children, 3 sadly died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 74 George Lane, Sheffield, Dick is 50 yrs and is a steel inspector, he is living with his wife Mary 48 yrs and three of their children, Thomas 16 yrs is a tinman cutler. Tom married Winifred May Gregory (born 22nd August 1895 ) in 1913 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had 2 children, Grace Ellen born 30th June 1914 and Wilfred born 4th November 1916, they lived at 37 Club Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Commencing 2nd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

2/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Tom Willoughby enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He land in France on 8th September 1914. He died if wounds (gun shot wound to the head) on 31st March 1918 at Mons war hospital, he is buried at Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery
