He was the son of James ( 1845 -1913 ) and Mary Ann Dutton b1848 He married his wife Maria Mayfield on 3rd April 1893 at St Pauls church, Radford, they lived at 19 Duke Street Radford Nottingham. They had the following children, Harriett b1895, Harry b1899, Gladys b1903, Mary Ann b1904, Fanny b1910 and Doris b1910 all were born in Radford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 24 Redoubt Street, Radford and are shown as Henry 45 yrs a builders labourer, he is living with his wife Maria 37 yrs and their children, Harriett 16 yrs a cotton reeler, Harry 12 yrs a scholar, Gladys 8 yrs a scholar, Mary Ann 7 yrs a scholar, Fanny 1 year old and Doris 1 year old.
He was a builders labourer in the 1911 census and a bricklayer when he enlisted in 1914.

Private Harry Dutton enlisted on 28th October 1884 at Derby, he was 18 years of age he served with the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment and served in The Sikkim Expedition (1888) and in the South African Campaign. He was discharged time served on 28th October 1901. He re enlisted on 24th October 1914 at Nottingham he was 48 yrs and 35 days old and was a bricklayer. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters and later posted to the Labour Corps with the service number (169100) He was demobilised from the Army on 20th February 1919 to 19 Duke Street, Radford. He died on 21st June 1919 and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery.
