Walter James Jackson was born in1870 at Tamworth and was the son of Henry a sanitary pipe loader and Maria Jackson née Stead. His father was born in 1827 at Tamworth and died in 1901, his mother Maria Stead was born in 1830 at Beeston she died in 1916, they were married in 1856 at Aston, Warwickshire, they went on to have 8 other children. Walter James married his wife Elizabeth Cooper (born 30th May 1869 ) in 1897 at Nottingham, they had the following children, Elsie b1898 , Henry Herbert born 13th July 1903, Hilda Janet born 26th October 1904 and Arthur Jackson b1911. They lived at 6 Cobden Street Radford Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Cobden Street, Nottingham and are shown as Walter Jackson 41 yrs, a turncock at the water works he is living with his wife Elizabeth 41 yrs and their children Elsie 13 yrs, Henry 7 yrs, Hilda 6 yrs and Arthur 5 months old. Following Walter's death his widow Elizabeth was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 2 pence a week which commenced on 19th May 1919.
22 years service in the Water Department in the 1911 census he is shown as turncock att he waterworks.

Royal Defence Corps
Sergeant Walter James Jackson, had previous service in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and had seen service in the South African Campaign. He was serving with the 157th Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps, when he died in Nottingham from pneumonia and influenza on 8th November 1918. He is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery.
