George Edward King was born in 1897 at Nottingham and was the son of George William a master harness maker and Sarah Ellen (Nellie) née Jones of 38, Redoubt Street, Radford, Nottingham. His father George William was born in 1876 at Leicester and his mother Sarah Ellen Jones was born in 1877 also at Leicester they were married in 1895 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, George Edward b1897, Ethel May b1900, Clarence b1904 and Doris b1908 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 (unreadable) Terrace, Nottingham and are shown George 34 yrs a master harness maker, he is living with his wife Sarah 34 yrs and their children, Edward 15 yrs an errand boy, Ethel 10 yrs and Doris 3 yrs of age.

1st Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Lance Corporal George Edward King, enlisted in Nottingham 26th August 1914, giving his age as 17 yrs and 99 days, he was a coal miner roadman. He served in the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, and and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 18th July 1916. He went to France on 1st December 1916 and died of wounds on on 13th April 1917. He is buried in Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt.
