Person Details
He was the son of John William and Emma Woolley and the brother of Clarence Woolley. In 1901 they lived at 8 Stone Street (St Matthias) and in 1911 at 2 Seymour Terrace, Seymour Street, Carlton Road (both Sneinton Nottingham).

He was reported missing after the first day of the Battle of the Somme but his death was not confirmed until the following year. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 16 June 1917: 'Woolley. Missing July 1st now reported killed, Private Fred Woolley, Sherwood Foresters, age 24, son of Mr and Mrs Woolley, 2 Seymour Terrace. Mother, father, brother Clarence and Arthur (in Canada).'
