Robert Morley Canham was born in 1897 at Hucknall and was the son of Henry a coal miner loader and Julia Canham née Bailey of 54 Co Operative Street, Hucknall, Nottingham. His father Henry was born in 1866 at Sheffield and his mother Julia Bailey was born in 1867 at Wicken, Cambridgeshire, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, William Henry b1894, Ethel Sophia b1896 Robert Morley b1898, Edith b1905 and Ernest Canham b1908 all were born at Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family are living at 12 West Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and were shown as Henry 45 yrs a coal miner loader, he is living with his wife Julia 44 yrs and their children, William Henry 17 yrs a coal miner corporal, Ethel Sophia 15 yrs a surgical overlooker, Robert Morley 13 yrs a pottery errand boy, Edith 6 yrs and Ernest 3 yrs of age. and later 54 Co-operative Avenue Hucknall.
In 1911 Robert Canham was an errand boy.

12th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Robert Morley Canham enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 12th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 31st July 1915, he was killed in action on 16th August 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial panel 115-119
