Son of William Farnsworth and Florence Farnsworth, of 16 Ashover Terrace, Manning Street, Nottingham. Wiliam was born in 1858 in Birmingham and his wife Florence was born in 1853 in Sheffield, they married C1871, they went on to have a very large family of 12 children, however sadly 5 of these children died in infancy, their surviving children were , Nellie b1880 Sheffield, Eliza b1882 Sheffield, Alice b1884 Nottingham, William b1886 Nottingham, Ernest b1891 Sheffield, Ada b1893 Nottingham and Rose b1895 Nottingham. Ernest father William died in March 1904 aged 45 yrs in the Basford district of Nottingham leaving his wife to bring up their large family on her own. By the 1911 census when the family are living at 19 Edginton St, Thorneywood, Nottingham , Florence is shown as being a widow 53 yrs and living with her are her children , Alice 27 yrs a blouse machinist, William 25 yrs a painter & paperhanger, Ernest 20 yrs a lace draughtsman, Ada 18 yrs a blouse machinist and Rose 16 yrs a blouse machinist, also in the house is Ethel Burrows 8 yrs Florence's granddaughter. The family later moved to 16 Ashover Terrace, Manning Street, Nottingham.
He was a painter and paperhanger in 1911.

2nd Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment
William enlisted in Nottingham , he served with the service number 2960 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was later transferred to the 2nd battalion , Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th October 1917, he has no known grave , his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
His brother Ernest also served during the 'Great War' with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters and was killed in Dublin during the Irish Rebellion 1916, he is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery.
