He was the son of William J and Annie Thompson and the brother of Thomas Arthur and Sydney Thompson. In 1901 they lived at 5 Gloucester Avenue Lenton and in 1911 at 30 Dunlop Avenue Radford (both Nottingham). Reginald's father predeceased him and his mother was living in Mablethorpe Lincolnshire at the time of her son's death. Reginald was engaged to Lily.
He was a clerk at Player's in 1911.

9th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Reginald Thompson, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 9th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 21st May 1915, he died of appendicitis at the County of London Hospital, Epsom, on 11th June 1916. He is buried in Lenton (Holy Trinity) Churchyard.
