Private William Towle, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd September 1918 during a German attack on their position. He is commemorated on Vis-en-Artois Memorial.Panel 7
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 14 October 1918: 'Towle. Killed in action Sept. 22nd 1918, Private William Towle, Sherwood Foresters, of 43 Brassey (?) Street, Radford. Wife and child. Father, stepmother and father in law, five brothers with the Colours, sisters at Bulwell.'
