Father: Enoch Shakespeare, born in 1843 at Polesworth, Warwickshire, and working as a coal miner. Mother: Eliza Victorian Shakespeare, born in 1841 at Wilnecote, Warwickshire. She became a widow in 1901. Brothers: Ernest, born in 1872 at Polesworth, and working as a leather splitter before becoming a coal miner, Horace S., born in 1877 at Bulwell, Nottingham and Cephus F., born in 1888 in Nottingham. Sisters: Florence, born in 1872 at Polesworth and working as a cigar maker, Victoria E., born in 1875 at Polesworth and also working as a cigar maker and Winnie, born in 1882 in Nottingham.The family lived at 20 Briar Street, Meadows, Nottingham. Enoch Shakespeare married his wife Susannah Maria Boothman (born 13th July 1876 at Doncaster) in 1901 at Nottingham . Shakespeare. They had four children, Horace Oliver born 23rd December 1901 in Nottingham, Cecil Arthur born 1st November 1903 in Bulwell Enoch John born 7th March 1908 in Bulwell and Jessie Eileen born 8th March 1915 at Bulwell They lived at 12 Ockerby Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. Following his death his widow Susannah was awarded a pension of 28 shiillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 1st October 1917.
Enoch Shakespeare worked as a leather dresser.

Shakespeare volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 18/12/1915. The battalion was serving in the Ypres Salient when Shakespeare was killed in action during a 'quiet' spell on 23/01/1917.
His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial Ypres Panel Reference: 47.
