Albert Mason was born in 1895 at Hucknall and was the son of the late William a shetland shawl maker and Charlotte Mason née Etches of 78 Orchard Street, Hucknall. His father William Mason was born in 1852 at Hucknall, his mother Charlotte Etches was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married in 1876 at Nottingham and went on to have 9 children sadly three died in infancy or earley childhood, their children were Samuel b1881, Sylvester B1886, Frederick B1888 Ada b1891 and Albert b1895 In the 1911 census the family lived at 78 Orchard Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and are shown as Charlotte 52 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Samuel 30 yrs a coal miner hewer, Sylvester 25 yrs a coal miner hewer, Frederick 23 yrs a coal miner hewer, Ada 20 yrs a shawl hand and Albert 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver. Albert married his wife Eliza Ann Williamson in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they lived at 64 Orchard Street, Hucknall and went on to have a son Albert born 14th August 1916. Following his death his widow Eliza Ann was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and five pence a week which commenced on 28th April 1919.

Private Albert Mason enlisted at Hucknall, he initially served with the service number 105894 in the Leicestershire Regiment. He was serving with the 1st battalion Cambridgeshire Regiment when he was killed in action on 7th October 1918
