John George Peck was born on 19th Jamuary 1897 at Hucknall and was the son of the late George Peck and Emma Peck née Scrimshaw. His father George Peck was born in 1866 at Nottingham, he died in 1900 aged 34 yrs and his mother Emma Scrimshaw was born in 1876 at Hucknall, they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children, John b1898, Charles b1899 and Thomas b1900. Following his fathers death his mother remarried Richard Hoggard in 1904 In 1911 they lived with Emma's second husband Richard Hoggard and four children from the second marriage (Gertrude, Richard, Doris and Walter Hoggard) at 20 Bentinck Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire.
John Peck worked in a pottery at Bulwell Nottingham.

18th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman John Peck enlisted on 23rd August 1915 at Hucknall, he gave his date of birth as 19th January 1897 and his age as 18 yrs and 290 days, he gave his next of kin as his mother Emma Peck of 20 Bentinck Street, Hucknall and was posted to the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He joined the regiment at their barracks at Winchester on 24th August 1915. He embarked from Southampton on 7th March 1917 and disembarked at Le Harve the following day 8th. He joined his battalion the 18th King's Royal Rifle Corps in the field on 30th March 1917. He was miising in action and later reported killed in action on 31st July 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
