Percy Riley served with the battalion on Gallipoli and in Egypt. On 1 July 1916 they arrived in France and spent time on the Arras front before moving to the Somme. Percy was killed during the attack near Thiepval on 26 September 1916. The battalion took three lines of trenches in a successful attack but it was at a high cost and one of those to die was Percy. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. The medal index card gives date of death as 26/10/1916 but this is incorrect. John Morse
