Frank Roberts was born on 14th January 1894 at Annesley Woodhouse , he was the 23 year-old son of Joseph Valentine Roberts, of 47 Annesley Road, Hucknall, and the late Mary Roberts; husband of Gladys Roberts, of 32 New Street, Bentley, Doncaster. In the 1911 census he is a boarder and is living at 69 Balfour Road, Bentley, Doncaster, he is shown as being 17 yrs of age single and a coal miner pony driver, he is living with Alfred Smith 36 yrs a coal filler underground and his family.

9th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers
Sergeant Frank Roberts, enlisted at Doncaster and served initially with service number 21764 in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was serving with the 9th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, when he was killed in action on 4th October 1917. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
