George was the son of George, a farmer, and Annie Moore who lived in 1891 at 6 Main Road Bevercoates. He was the brother of Sophie, William, Albert and Marion. His parents died early in George's life, his father on 2 May 1895 aged 45 and his mother on 13 November 1897 aged 41. When he joined the army in 1902 his next of kin was his brother William. In 1901 he was a servant living with Ann Stacey, a widow and butcher, and her two daughters at Eldon Street Tuxford.
In 1901 he was a butcher journeyman.

He enlisted at Doncaster on 19/11/1902 giving his age as 19 years and 10 months. He served on the home front from his enlistment date until 22/9/1914. He was mobilised on the 9/9/1914 at Aldershot and joined the British Expeditionary Force in France on 23/9/1914. He served for a period of 12 years and 115 days and then on his record appears the notice of his death on 13/3/1915 accompanied by the line ‘ Wound in throat self inflicted suicide’. He is buried in Merville Communal Cemetery Nord France. (Grave reference: I B 8).
His name does not appear on a memorial but he is mentioned on the family grave in Milton All Saints (Mausoleum) churchyard. The inscriptions are on three faces: ‘(1) In loving memory of George Moore who died May 2: 1895, aged 45 years. Thy will be done. (2) In loving memory of Annie, relict of George Moore who died Nov 13 – 1897, aged 41 years. Gone but not forgotten. (3) In loving memory of Pte George EB Moore, died of wounds at Merville France, March 13th 1915 aged 32 years.’ George's property and medals were sent to his brother William at Decoy Farm Haughton Retford.
