Harold Nuttall was born in 1898 at Burnley, he was the son of James a musician and Mercy Nuttall née Wilson of 104 Hartley Road, Radford. His father James was born in 1858 at Oldham, he died in 1918 at Nottingham aged 60 yrs his mother Mercy Wilson was born in 1857 at Bolton by Bowland Yorkshire, they were married in 1881 at Burnley and went on to have 13 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Charles Thomas b1882, Mary Ellen b1884, Francis b1886, Annie Maria b1887, Leo Joseph b1891, James b1895 (killed in action 16/8/1917), Winifred b1896 and Albert Nuttall b1900 all were born in Burnley In the 1911 census the family lived at 2 Dorking Road , Nottingham and were shown as James 53 yrs a musician at skating ring, he is living with his wife Mercy 54 yrs and their children, Mary Ellen 27 yrs a cotton winder, Leo Joseph 20 yrs a milk seller, James 16 yrs a milk seller, Winifred 15 yrs a book binder Harold 13 yrs a scholar and Albert 11 yrs a scholar.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Harold Nuttall enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 26th October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
His brother Private James Nuttall enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 16th August 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
