He was the son of William a farm labourer and Sarah Elizabeth Orr of Edwalton who had 7 children. In 1911 the family were living at Edwalton with 5 of their children including Charles Robert who was 25. In 1913 Charles Orr married Elizabeth Astill in Bingham, Nottinghamshire.
He was a farm labourer.

Charles died of disease in hospital in the 1st London General Hospital, Camberwell, on 28th March 1915 and was buried in Edwalton (Holy Rood) churchyard at the east of the church near east hedge. Although not commemorated on the parish war memorial his name is included in a roll of honour in the church.
