John Edward Pryme was born in 1894 he was the son of the late Samuel Alma a coal miner hewer and Hannah Pryme née Huskinson and the brother of Alma Pyme (killed in action 12/7/1916) of 3 Cursham Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Samuel Alma was born in 1854 at Sutton in Ashfield, he died in 1917 aged 64 yrs Hannah Huskinson was born in 1853 at Skegby, she died in 1908 aged 55 yrs they were married on 24th July 1877 in the Parish Church at Sutton in Ashfield, they went on to have 8 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 3 Cursham Street Sutton in Ashfield. Samuel Alma is 57 yrs and is a coal miner hewer his is a widow and is living with two of his sons John Edward 17 yrs a coal miner horse driver and Alma 14 yrs a coal miner horse driver. John married Eliza Jane Devenport (born 20th October 1893 ) in 1914 at Mansfield, they had a daughter Beatrice born 27th November 1914, they lived at 3 Quarry Yard Sutton in Ashfield. Commencing 8th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.
He was a pit horse driver below ground in 1911.

Private John Edward Pryme enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he died of wounds on 28th September 1917 and is buried at Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul
his brother Private Alma Pryme served with the 19th battalion Welch Regiment, he died of wounds on 12th July 1916 aged 21 yrs and is buried at Morlancourt British Cemetery in France.
