George Wilcockson was born in 1898 at Eastwood and was the son of William a coal miner hewer and Louisa Wilcockson née Webb, of 7, Sadler St., Mansfield, Notts. His father William was born in 1863 at Eastwood his mother Louisa Webb was born in 1870 in Middlesex, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Samuel b1889, Albert b1893, Harriett b1897, George b1898, Florence b1901, Percy b1902, Ivy b1904, all were born in Greasley, their final child Margaret was born in 1908 at Mansfield. In the 1911 census the family were residing at 55 Arundel Drive, Mansfield and were shown as William Wilcockson 48 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Louisa 41 yrs and their children, Samuel 22 yrs a coal miner hewer, Albert 18 yrs a coal miner hewer, Walter 16 yrs a coal miner loader, Harriett 14 yrs a mill hand in a tin works, George 13 yrs a colliery labourer above ground, Florrie 10 yrs a scholar, Percy 9 yrs a scholar, Ivy 7 yrs a scholar and Maggie 3 yrs of age.

8th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private George Wilcockson enlisted on 10th May 1915 at Worksop, he gave his age as 18 yrs and his address as 7 Sadler Street, Mansfield, his next of kin was his father William of the same address. He was posted to the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He embarked from England on 4th March 1916 disembarking the following day in France and arriving at the base depot, on 16th March 1916 he joined his unit in the field . He was killed in action on 15th April 1916 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St-Eloi, France.
