George Colclough was born in 1888 the son of William Spriggs a machine minder and Jane Elizabeth Colclough née Buxton of 109 Stanley Road Forest Fields Nottingham. William Spriggs Colclough and Jane Buxton were both born in 1866 at Nottingham, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham and went on to have 4 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 88 Beverley Street, Nottingham, William is 45 yrs is a machine minder. In 1911 George has left the family home and joined the army, he is shown in barracks in India, he is 23 yrs of age single and a Private in the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Private George Colclough enlisted at Nottingham, he was in India with his regiment in 1911. He was killed in action on 20th October 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial
