John Lock (junior) was born in 1886 at Nottingham and was the son of John Lock (senior) a stationary engine driver at a lace factory and Elizabeth Annie Lock of 83 Lambert Street Hyson Green Nottingham. His father John was born in 1862 at Uphill, Norfolk, his mother Elizabeth Annie was born in 1863 at Nottingham, they were married C1884 and had the following children, John b1886, Beatrice b1888, Henry b1889 and Agnes b1894. In the 1911 census the family are living at 83 Lambert Street, Nottingham and are shown as John Lock 49 yrs married a stationary engine driver at a lace factory, he is living with his children, John 25 yrs a leather splitter, Beatrice 23 yrs a milliner, Henry 22 yrs a leather splitter and Agnes 17 yrs a lace dresser.
In the 1911 census he is shown as a leather splitter.

Machine Gun Corps (Infantry)
Private John Lock enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the servicer number 66475 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He later transferred to the 167th Company Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 16th May 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
