Clarence William was born in 1897 in the Meadows, Nottingham and was the only son of William a lace draughtsman and Annie Elizabeth Shaw, née Terry ,they lived at 133 Stanley Road Forest Fields Nottingham. His father William was born in 1872 in Lenton, Nottingham, his mother Annie Elizabeth Terry was also born in 1872 in Leeds, Yorkshire, they were married in 1896 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 133 Stanley Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 39 yrs a lace draughtsman, he is living with his wife Annie Elizabeth 39 yrs and their son Clarence William 13 yrs a scholar

6th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
Eighteen year-old Private Clarence William Shaw, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 6th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds aboard H.M.H.S. Lanfranc on 26th November 1915. Serving as 'William Shaw,' he had only landed on the Gallipoli peninsula on 16th October 1915. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial,
In memoriam published 26th November 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SHAW. – In loving memory of our dearly-loved and only son, Clarence William, aged 18, died of wounds, Dardanelles, November 26th, 1915. A day of remembrance sad to recalled. – Mother and dad.” In memoriam published 26th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SHAW. - In loving memory of our dearly loved and only son, Clarence William, aged 18, died of wound, Dardanelles, November 26th, 1915.
