He was the son of John and Jane Simpson of 9 Birkin Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham. He was the husband of Gertrude Simpson. In 1911 they lived at 468 Berridge Road Hyson Green.
He was a tobacco manufacturer.

Lance Corporal
9th Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Lance Corporal Leonard Simpson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 9th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France as a reinforcement to 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on 15th January 1915 and was killed in action on 4th November 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium (Panel 108 to 111). He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
