Austin Tegart was born in 1893 the son of the late Augustus a pianist and Alice Ann Tegart née James of Hyson Green Nottingham. Augustus was born in 1861 in London, he died in 1896 aged 35 yrs , Alice Ann James was born in 1865 at Nottingham, married in 1885 at Nottingham they had 6 children. His mother Alice re married in 1910 to Stephen Allen born 1874 a coal miner hewer. In 1911 the family are living at 60 Lenton Street, Hyson Green, Stephen Allen 37 yrs a coal miner hewer is living with his wife Alice Ann Allen 44 yrs and her children

17th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Austin Tegart, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hyson Green, he served with 17th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Welbeck Rangers), he was killed in action on 11th July 1916. He is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery.
A younger brother, Herbert Tegart, was killed in an accident at Gedling Colliery on 9th March 1915 his obituary was published on 9th March 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “TEGART. – In loving memory of Herbert Tegart, beloved son of Alice Allen (late Tegart), killed at Gedling Pit, March 9th, 1915.
