Ernest Jacklin was born in 1891 at Hyson Green and was the son of the late George Edward a lace maker and Ellen Jacklin née Mitchell of 4A Oldknow Street, Nottingham. His father George Edward was born in 1861 at Lenton, he died in Nottingham in 1911 aged 50 yrs, his mother Ellen Mitchell was born in 1865 at Nottingham, they were married on 26th May 1882 at Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children two of whom sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their children were Annie b1883, Jerimiah b1888, Ernest b1891, Nellie b1892, Mary Elizabeth b1895, Jennie b1900 and Lucy b1902. Ernest married his wife Mary Ellen Wheeldon (born 1888) in 1907 at Nottingham, they lived at 7 Alson Cottages, Factory Lane, Bulwell they had the following children, George Herbert born 1909 and Thomas born 1913. In the 1911 census Ernest and his family are living with his father in law and his family at 7 Fitzroy Terrace, Bulwell and are shown as John Wheeldon 40 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 41 yrs and their married daughter Mary Ellen Jacklin 22 yrs and her husband Ernest Jacklin 20 yrs a coal miner and their son George Herbert 1 year of age. In the same 1911 census his parents are living at 4 Olknow Street, Nottingham, they are shown as George Edward Jacklin 50 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Ellen 46 yrs and their children, Annie 18 yrs a sewing machinist, Mary Ellen 16 yrs a sewing machinist, Jennie 11 yrs a scholar and Lucy 9 yrs of age. Following Ernest death his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 17th April 1916.
He was a miner (loader).

Private Ernest Jacklin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hyson Green, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment . He landed in France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action on 22nd September 1915 whilst serving in the trenches near La Chapelle-D'Armentiers, France 22nd September 1915. He is buried at X Farm Cemetery, La Chapelle-D'Armentieres, France. Row D, Grave 10.
