He was the son of Charles and Laura Berry and the brother of Fred and Joseph Berry and the half brother of Ernest and Martha Berry. In 1901 they lived at 5 Brady Yard Main Street Bulwell Nottingham.

Albert Berry attested on 29 August 1914 and on 1 September was sent to the Sherwood Forester depot. on 3 September he was posted to 3rd Reserve battalion were he remained until 5 December 1914 when he was posted to 13th reserve battalion at Lostwithiel. On 17 May 1915 he was made unpaid Lance Corporal which was made paid on 5 August 1915. On 6 September 1915 he was deprived his Lance Corporal stripe by the CO. No reason was given. On 18 September 1915 he was posted to 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters at Gallipoli. After the withdrawal from Gallipoli he was on Lemnos for a while before embarking for Alexandria, Egypt on 29 January 1916. The battalion spent six months on the Suez canal before being sent to France, arriving on 1 July 1916. After training for trench warfare in the 'quiet' sector near Arras, the battalion moved to the Somme in August. They trained for the next attack and also spent time in the trenches near Thiepval. Albert was killed in action during the Battle of Thiepval when the battalion successfully took all of it objectives but at high cost. Albert has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. John Morse
On enlistment Albert gave his height as 5 feet 3 and a quarter inches. He was 27 years and 212 days old.
