He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Phillips and the brother of Percy, Hettie, Mabel and Walter Phillips. In 1911 they lived at 20 Chatham Street Bulwell Nottingham.
He was a hosiery trimmer.

Private Harold Phillips, served with the 193rd Company Machine Gun Corps, he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France
Inscription on headstone, Northern Cemetery, Bulwell, Nottingham: 'In loving memory of Thomas the beloved husband of Hannah Phillips who died Feb. 26th 1909 aged 56 years. Peace perfect peace. Also Harold the beloved son of the above killed in action ‘somewhere in France’ May 3rd 1917 aged 24 years. For us the parting, for him life eternal. Sacred to the memory of our dear mother Hannah the beloved wife of Thomas Poole who passed to the homeland Nov. 3rd 1919 aged 64 years. At rest.'
