He was the son of Fredrick and Elizabeth Boot and the brother of Florence Mary, Annie and Charles Frederick Boot. In 1911 they lived at 85 Cemetery Road East Kirkby.
He was a coal mine junction boy in 1911.

47th Bde Royal Field Artillery
Gunner William Alfred Boot, enlisted at Hucknall on 10th September 1914 , he served with “D” Battery, 47th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, was killed in action on 9th July 1915. He is buried at Ypres Town cemetery, Belgium.
Article published 16th July 1915 in the Nottingham Daily Express :- “Acting Bombardier W. A. Boot, of the Royal Field Artillery, who was killed at Ypres on July 9th. Bombardier Boot enlisted on September 10th. Prior to the war he was employed by the Kirkby-in-Ashfield Co-operative Society. The sad news of his death was conveyed to Mr. and Mrs. Boot, whose home is at 28, Welbeck-street, East Kirkby, by an officer of his company, who stated that at the time the bullet struck him he had just finished – and finished well – a highly dangerous piece of work.
