Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 24 November 1914: 'Scothern. On 10th inst, died of wounds at Boulogne, Private James Scothern, 1st Life Guards, only son of Elizabeth and the late George (sic) Scothern, aged 27 years.'
