He was the son of Arthur and Ann Fox and the brother of John Fox. In 1911 they lived at 11 Hind's Yard Nottingham. Ann later moved to 7 Simpkin's Buildings Clayton Street Queen's Walk Meadows Nottingham.
In 1911 he worked as a newspaper printer but was a labourer by 1913.

9th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Arthur Fox enlisted on 26 May 1913, aged 17 years 10 months and was put in the 4th Special reserve. Listed as being 18 on 26 July 1913. On 5 October 1914 he was court martialled for being 'absent without leave' and given 6 months. This was quashed on 6 November 1914 and he was exonerated and posted to 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. There is no record of him joining them overseas and on 26 March 1915 he was posted to the 9th Battalion. He served on Gallipoli and in Egypt. The battalion moved to France in July 1916 and he fought in the Battle of Thiepval in September 1916. He was given leave between 21st and 31st January 1917. He was killed in action during the Battle of Messines 6/9th June 1917. The battalion's trench was shelled heavily during the early hours of 9th June and Arthur was one of the men killed. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. John Morse
