He was the son of Samuel and Violet Burman and the brother of Florence, William, Edith, George and Eunice Burman. In 1911 they lived at 100 Southgate Eckington Sheffield and later at 5 Florence Street Hazel Grove Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire.
In 1911 he was a groom.

1/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Herbert Peet Burman enlisted at Chesterfield whilst residing at Hucknall and served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 20, during the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at Gommecourt Wood New Cemetery, Foncquevillers, France. Plot 2, Row E, Grave 5.
