Harold Moorhouse was born in 1889 at Shipley and was the son of John a house painter and Ellen Moorhouse née Bland of 5 Mount Street, Shipley, Yorkshire. His father John was born in 1860 at Keighley, Yorkshire and his mother Ellen Bland was born in 1857 at Rigton, Yorkshire, they were married on 11th July 1880 at Keighley and went on to have 9 children, sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Fred Raynor b1881 Keighley, Henry Raynor b1883 Shipley, William b1885 Shipley, Harold b1889 Shipley, Tom Bland b1891 Shipley, Alice b1893 Shipley and Ethel May b1897 Shipley. In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Mount Street, Shipley and are shown as John Moorhouse 51 yrs a house painter, he is living with his wife Ellen 54 yrs and their children, Harold 22 yrs a house painter, Tom Bland 20 yrs a cabinet makers apprentice, Alice 18 yrs a yarn twister and Ethel May 14 yrs a yard winder. Harold married his wife Violet Minkley born 26th July 1891 in 1910, they marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at Peveril Street, Hucknall and had a daughter Irene born 16th November 1916. Following his death his widow Violet was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 29th October 1917.

14th Bn Durham Light Infantry
Private Harold Moorhouse enlisted at Skipton, Yorkshire whilst residing at Hucknall, he served in the 14th battalion Durham Light Infantry, he died of wounds on 22nd April 1917 and is buried at Bethune Town Cemetery, France
