Brothers: Percy J. born in 1886 in Nottingham and working as a pattern maker and Archibald, born in 1897 in Nottingham Sister: Clarice, born in 1881 in Nottingham and working as a tailoress. The family lived at 40 Wilford Crescent, Nottingham before moving to 40 Sneinton Dale, Nottingham.

Sapper Selby volunteered for service and following training arrived in France on 28/10/1915. He was seriously wounded in September 1917 and taken to hospital where he died on 04/09/1917. He was buried at Calais Southern Cemetery.
In memoriam published 4th September 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- SELBY. – In loving memory of Sapper Edgar Selby, R.E., the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Selby, died of wounds September 4th,1917.
