Bertram Harold Drury was born in 1899 in Nottingham and was the son of George a joiner and Jane Drury née Bugg they lived at 183 Pym Street Nottingham. His father George was born in 1865 in Washingborough, Lincolnshire and his mother Sarah Jane Bugg was born in 1867 in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1889 in Nottingham , they had a further child a daughter Doris Susan b1900 also in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 183 Pym Street, Nottingham and are shown as George 46 yrs a joiner, he is living with his wife Jane 44 yrs and their children Bertram Harold 21 yrs a joiner and Doris Susan 11 yrs a scholar.
He was a joiner for 12 years at Boots Shop Fitting Department.

Army Service Corps
Bertram enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 94th Motor Transport Company, Army Service Corps. He died in India 31st October 1918 of influenza and is commemorated on Delhi Memorial (India Gate). and buried Peshawar (Right) B.C. XLV. 28.
Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 19th December 1918:- “DRURY. - On October 31st, in India, aged 28. Pte. Bert Drury, only beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Drury, 171, Pym-street, for twelve years with Boots shopfitting department. Oh, for the touch of a vanished hand, and the sound of a voice that is still. - Broken-hearted mother, father, and sister Doris. “DRURY. - On October 31st, of influenza, at Pershore, India, Private Bert Drury, A.S.C., loving nephew of Lizzie and Frank Taylor, Royal Oak, Carlton-road “in the bloom of life.” above obituaries courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918.
