In 1891 they lived at 30 Hawkridge Street Robin Hood Street Nottingham. In 1901 they lived at the same address with Ruth's second husband John Barnsdale and his family.
In 1891 he worked in a tea/grocery warehouse and in 1911 he was a tailor.
