Corporal Tom Tate, served with “L” Signal Company Royal Engineers, he died at the 5th Stationary Hospital on 18th September 1917 due to accidental injuries. He is buried in Janval Cemetery, Dieppe.
Article published on 28th September 1917 in the Mansfield Reporter and Sutton Times :- “KIRKBY DESPATCH RIDER DIES IN HOSPITAL. “News has come through to his parents of the death, in hospital in France, from injuries to the skull, of Corporal T. Tate, motor cyclist despatch rider in the Royal Engineers. Corporal Tate enlisted very early in the war, prior to which he was in business with his father and brother as builders and contractors.
