Charles Richard Lee was born in 1886 the son of William, a carter who died in 1910 aged 56, and Sarah Ann Lee (née Read) Lee. Charles’s father was born in 1855 at Nottingham and his mother in 1859 at Yoxhall, Staffordshire. Married in 1886 in Nottingham. Sarah Ann had two children William Henry Read b.1881 and Mable Gertrude Read b.1883. William and Sarah had six children five surviving infancy - Charles b.1886, William b.1888, Herbert b.1889, Leonard b.1895 and Florence b.1897. In 1901 the family lived at 7 Haywood Street and in 1911at 28 Kingsley Road (both Sneinton Nottingham. Charles Richard married Mabel Jennison in 1907 at Nottingham and they had two children Phyllis b.1911 and Nancy b.1913. They lived at 94 Noel Street Hyson Green Nottingham.
In 1911 Charles wa sa a coal trade drayman.
