Harold Fewkes was born in 1897 the son of John a lace maker and Amanda Fewkes née Spencer and the brother of Wallace, Jack, Tom, Harry, Henrietta and Manda Fewkes of 4 Bateman Street Hyson Green Nottingham. John Fewkes was born in 1849 Amanda Spencer was born in 1854 both were born in Carrington, married in 1873 at Nottingham they went on to have 11 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 4 Bateman Street, Nottingham, John 62 yrs is a lace maker, Harold 14 yrs is a butchers boy

18th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Harold Fewkes enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 18th battalion King's Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 6th August 1916 he is buried in Berks Cemetery Extension, Belgium.
Nottingham Evening Post In Memoriam 13/8/1917: 'Fewkes. In loving memory of our dear son and our brother Harold Fewkes KRR of 4 Bateman Street killed in action August 6th 1916 aged 19. - Silently mourned sadly missed, mother, brothers and sisters.'
