Mansfield William Clarke was born in 1885 at Bingham and was the son of William George a general carter and Mary Ann Clarke née Beaumont of Bingham. His father William George was born in 1856 at Thoroton and his mother Mary Ann Beaumont was born in 1855 at Ashton, Northamptonshire, they were married on 10th January 1875 at Stepney at London, they went on to have the following children, Edith b1879 Thorotn, George Thomas b1881 Swinehead, Lincolnshire, Florence b1883 Swinehead, Mansfield William b1885 Bingham, Hilda b1888 Bingham and Ivy born 1894 Pinxton. In the 1901 census the family are living at 51 Radcliffe Street, West Bridgford,

Lieutenant Mansfield William Clarke, served with the 5th Regiment South African Infantry, he was killed in action in East Africa on 16th November 1917. He is buried in Dar Es Salaam War Cemetery.

Duty nobly done. - In loving remembrance from his dear friends Mrs Ward, Winnie and Harry.'
