George Holmes

He was the 24 year-old son of the late Mr. & Mrs. H. Holmes of Nottingham and a brother to Annie Mary, Florence and Edith

Sergeant George Holmes, 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he landed in France on 8th September 1914 and was gassed May 20th and died 26th May 1915, aged 24. at No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station, Bailleul, France. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension.

Death notice published 26th May 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HOLMES. – Killed in action, May 26th, 1915, Sergeant G. Holmes, 2nd Sherwood Foresters. – From his loving sisters, Annie, Florence, and Edith.” In memoriam published 28th May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HOLMES. – In loving memory of Sergt. G.
