Served with the 11th Division Cyclist Coy. He first entered a theatre of war in the Balkans on 6th August 1915. He died of wounds received at Suvla in No. 17 General Hospital, Alexandria on 18th September 1915. He is buried in Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 15 October 1915: 'Private AW Brown, Army Cyclist Corps, 21 Pym Street, Nottingham, died of wounds, September 18th, aged 20.'
